Mentors

Undergradaute Students

KAYLA mentors are dedicated volunteers who embody our four core values: Resilience, Shared Stewardship, Courage, and Wisdom

They serve as trusted guides, offering oversight and strategic advice to support each youth-led project. Mentors help Fellows navigate leadership challenges, set realistic goals, and ensure that programs stay on track and mission-aligned.

Mentors will act as a bridge between youth fellows and KAYLA staff. Mentors facilitate communication, share resources, and help move each project forward.

In addition, each mentor will be paired with an advisor for one year. Mentors are welcome to be matched with a new advisor each year to expand their perspective. These pairings are designed to help mentors explore and grow their own aspirations with guidance from professionals at various stages of their careers—early, mid, and late.

Mentorship at KAYLA is a partnership. Together, we’re cultivating a culture of learning, collaboration, and impact.

Advisors

Graduate Students & Professionals

Advisors support KAYLA mentors by offering guidance, perspective, and a listening ear. They serve as sounding boards and thought partners, helping mentors reflect on their goals and navigate personal and professional growth. A core goal of the advisor role is to help mentors develop into young adults who lead with heart and strive to make a positive impact in their communities.

Advisors also serve as cultural ambassadors, offering the mentors (i.e., Korean American young adults) the opportunity to engage with perspectives beyond a Korean-centric upbringing. Through conversation, reflection, and real-world insights, advisors help mentors better understand the broader fabric of American society. This exposure is designed to deepen their awareness of diverse experiences while reinforcing KAYLA’s core value of shared stewardship across cultures, generations, and identities.
